Being a teacher can be a bit…daunting. It’s quite a shock when 18, 19, even older students hand in work that is frankly…very poorly written. Clearly last minute. The product of not only not taking care but, sadly, a reflection of their high school experience as well. Teaching mostly freshmen I’m generally at that front line of “this is no longer acceptable, it’s time to grow up” work. I try and laugh it off usually, but the other day it really got me down. So I wrote the following essay in the style of some of the more…troubling…essays I’ve received. Nothing in here is from any paper a student gave me, nor is it really intended to insult-a look back at my work at the age of 18 would probably reveal at least similar, of not the same, shock.
Someday I’ll post some of my “hall of fame” quotes from papers, but for now if you want to know what grading papers can be like, take the following and multiply it by 15 papers. Enjoy.
Frank Lattuca
Should Professor Lattuca Keep Teaching? Hell No!
Whether someone teaches or not is a question a lot of people in the society ask. It is true that the importance of a teacher should be at the top of the list, but some people think that this is not the case. One such teacher, also known as a professor or “doctor”, is Frak Lattuca. Lattuca is also an attorney and a lawyer, but also a teacher too. It is true that he may or may not be of importance as a teacher, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. How can you say he is not for real? I personally think that I believe he should teach but also not.
The first reason I think this is like we said in class-sometimes you need to get paid! It is important for people to get paid and without this job, despite his other job, he would be unemployed. This is a bad ideology [1]. There are too many unemployed people harming the economy-but who is to say that it is the immigrants fault? Mr. Lattuca sounds like a foreign name but he is American and white and his family came from far away, in a place like Portugal, a long time ago. So he should be able to have a job-how can you say he’s not for real?
Also another reason I came up with is that he has to get up real early to do it. That’s hard for people and he could be using that time to sleep or get ready for his other job or look for a new job if he was unemployed from this one. Also, he could play xbox too. Teaching, also known as being a professor, is important in the modern times because people have to do certain things so that it won’t be the old times. This is what is meant by “getting blood from a stone.” How is that fair? Is that how you feel? This ideology is important-how can you say it isn’t! This is for real, and people have a rumble about it.
Lastly before I am done, I also think that the children would be doing drugs. Failing into drug use or other such behaviors is a bad ideology and should not be done by people who would do them if they could do them but for a person saying no. This is a choice that everyone makes and so that choice should be respected and not commented upon because that is wrong and judgmental but also true. Without the children being educated so importantly they would likely fall into the violence at home and fight and die. As one statistic said (statistic web site) “42% of this is real, and could cause an issue.” It was also like this guy said “The theory says a lot, but does not really bring us any closer to the secret of the ‘old one’. I, at any rate, am convinced that Hedoes not throw dice.” (Albert Einstien who was smart and could not be argued with.)
In conclusion you should do both the things that you want. It is important to balance yourself and also do your duty and responsibility. Perhaps he could take a vacation and not fight with the dogs, but also come back and do his thing to the back.
